The incredible yearly festival of the Historic Hours (Les Heures historiques) will take place on 17-18 May in the park of Sully-sur-Loire castle. When I first visited it a few years ago I wasn’t even aware that hundreds of groups dedicated to historic re-enactment 1) existed and 2) gathered like this, and (to be frank) initially I was very skeptical about the concept… but now I’m a fan, especially when I see the stars in the eyes of my young son!
Stroll around and you’ll get to meet 18th century dukes, Indians, cow-boys, prehistoric dudes and a whole series of First- and Second World War re-enacters (complete with wrecked plane!). The costumes and decor are so well made, it’s like being invited on a movie set, except it’s a movie where they’d be mixing different time periods, a bit like a Night at the Museum…
A lot of the participants camp for two days on site, giving the whole event a very special feel. Cra-zy! I remember two years back when it was balmy and some 17th century ladies were suffering from the heat in their heavy robes (but always gracefully)…
Here are a few pictures I’ve taken last year to give you a taste of it. Check out the organiser’s Facebook page here for more information and contact us if you need a place to stay (as of publication we still have a room available).
