Let’s play: Spot the anachronism!

This spring again Sully-sur-Loire (40min south of Orléans, 2 hours south of Paris) will welcome the Historical Hours Festival (Heures historiques).

If you’ve never checked it out, then like thousands of visitors each year you definitely should come and pay it a visit on 16-17 May.

What is it about? Thanks to over 1,000 people whose passion it is to ‘relive’ episodes of the past through well-documented dress and props, while strolling around in the castle’s park you encounter US soldiers from WW2, Far-West Indians, contemporaries of Marie-Antoinette, and many other well-costumed characters.

There are ‘period’ food stands too, and I’ve been delighted last time I visited to taste some biscuits that were all the rage in 17th century France (I mean – I often do you get to do that??)!

Hello, ladies!

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: visiting the Historical Hours is like walking through a series of film sets in open air! It’s a unique experience.

A lot of participants camp at the site too, giving a very special (and friendly) vibe to the whole thing. It’s a great event to visit with kids too.

So, if you’re tempted, we still have (as of posting) some availability at La Danasha B&B on 16-17 May, and we’re located just 10min away by car – or 25min by bike. More information (in French) is to be found here.
